Easter In Quarantine: 5 Fun Things To Do

Celebrate the joyous day of Easter in your lovely home. With COVID-19 taking over our day-to-day lives, we have to practice social distancing. While this life change is happening at the same time as the cherished Easter holiday, you can still enjoy all that Easter has to bring.

Be thankful for family and friends, even if they are far away. With these fun activities, life will feel normal, at least for the day. Stay in and stay safe with your most immediate family members and loved ones! Create a full day of games and fun for your little ones to always remember!

Home Egg Hunt

A typical scavenger hunt can involve mass groups of children all fighting to find the colorful hidden eggs. This year stay safe and inside your own home, or in your yard! Set up an ‘eggcellent’ scavenger hunt around the house and backyard. Create the perfect egg hunt by dressing up your home with festive decor with items like an Easter garden flag or a pretty pastel wreath. Things to remember when hosting your egg hunt at home:

  • Keep track of the number of eggs you’ve hidden by making a note of each place you’ve put them. This way you will know for sure when all the eggs have been found and where the rest are hidden.
  • While you can use real colored Easter eggs, you can always go for reusable plastic ones as well. The great thing about plastic eggs is that you can leave hidden treasures inside.
  • Set up multiple hunts with different games. One game – who can find the most eggs! Another game – who finds the eggs with the most treasures inside! Or – who finds the only egg with the special treat!
  • For an Easter spent in quarantine, there are appropriate trinkets you can put in the eggs. From fun Easter craft stamps, to hand sanitizer, festive candy, and more, they can receive gifts that keep them occupied.

Streaming Church Service

There is a reason for the season, He Has Risen! Easter is a special Holy holiday that is valued by people of the Christian faith. While it is typical to dress up in your new Easter outfit and attend a church service, this year we don’t have the luxury. It is unsafe to be surrounded by mass gatherings of people, no matter the importance.

Luckily, we have the internet to save the day! Most churches will be providing a free online mass where you can sit and enjoy scripture in the comforts of your own home. While you are with your immediate friends or family quarantining together, gather around your computer or television and join in on the celebration. Take out your Bible and personalized bible case and follow along to the teachings. Your church may even take donations through apps, so you can share money and help spread love with your church and your pastors.

Social Distancing Egg Hunt

Due to the current climate, group Easter egg hunts have been put on pause. Give you and your kids something to look forward to, since this classic activity has been canceled. Many neighborhoods have started a new trend to keep the Easter spirit alive. Instead of hiding eggs in a field, people are hanging decorative eggs in their windows. This way you can have an egg hunt by driving around your town looking for the eggs! Even if you don’t want to take a ride around town to look for these eggs, creating your own drawings is a fun and festive activity to do with your family!

You’ll need paper, colored pencils, markers, Easter craft stamps, and for added decoration use cute washi-tape. Older kids can tap into their creative side and design their very own Easter eggs! No design is off-limits when you get to draw or paint (instead of dying real eggs). Smaller children can participate by using Easter craft stamps! They can use pre-designed stamps or color in the imprints. After their masterpieces are complete, string them along the windows in the front of your house for bystanders to see!

Bake the Day Away

Baskets are commonly filled to the brim with sugary sweets, chocolate bunnies, and Cadbury eggs. Use your time in quarantine to bake something for your family and your pets! Your furry family members should be able to enjoy the delicious treats that come with Easter too. Luckily there are easy to make recipes for dog treats you can create in your own kitchen. Spend quality time as a family creating little egg-shaped cookies for the dog and yummy dessert for you and the kids to enjoy.

Looking for a tasty dessert for the family to enjoy? Try making chocolate bird’s nests! With three simple ingredients – milk chocolate, shredded wheat, and Robin’s Egg chocolates – you can make delicious snacks.

  • First, take your chocolate and microwave it for a couple of minutes or until it’s melted.
  • Then take the shredded wheat and coat it in the melted chocolate.
  • Form the mixture into a bowl shape before it sets.
  • Once your little sugar nest is settled add the Robin’s Egg chocolates in the middle. This sugary dessert is almost too cute to eat!

Easter Egg Coloring

While you are stuck at home, it is the perfect time to get creative and decorate some traditional Easter eggs. You can use items already in your cabinet like food coloring and vinegar, or buy a Easter egg kit online.

  • Before you dip your eggs into the color wash, you can create designs on the egg by using a wax crayon.
  • When you dip the egg into the color, the design you made in wax will stay white!
  • After you soak your eggs in your chosen color and let them dry, you can use markers and stickers for added decoration.

Once everyone has finished creating their lovely Easter eggs make sure to snap a picture and post it on social media. While you are social distancing it is important to keep in contact with friends and family to hold onto some aspects of normalcy. You can even video chat with friends and color eggs together!
